    Altec 612c and 416 woofer

    Hi,
i really like the size of the 612 Altec cabinet. I would like to buy a 416 from GPA but could not find specs for them.
Do they fit (b or C version) into that cabinet?
    I the bass adequate?

Re: Altec 612c and 416 woofer

They make 416-8C and the specs are in its pdf, but don't know how accurate they are. Seems to me I saw somewhere that they're now making 416-8B also, but after Pano's experience I wonder if it performs on a par with an original. Some DIYer's measured specs of their 515-8G are quite good though, so all things considered, might be better to use a 515-8 or 16C instead.

For old vinyl, tape and some (most?) of today's compressed pop music, the 612 would be marginal at best for me and forget any real bass due to its high tuning, but I'm not you and don't have your room, so don't have a clue if it's adequate for you or not. Possibly corner loading combined with a lower tuning might be though. Only one way to know for sure.........

I'd echo GM on this, though I like lots of bass.

If you are used to small bookshelf units, then the output may be more than enough, and with some EQ, just what you need.

There was some discussion on this thread http://www.hostboard.com/forums/alte...-cabinets.html

First question what is the size of the room. If you get them off the floor they sound decent. With plenty of bass but if your comparing to model 19's or something as big then not so much bass.I was quite surprised didn't think they would sound as good as they did. But then again they had 416-8B's in them The 612C is a versatile cabinet but if you have the room to go larger then by all means.

Here's the short version of the specs.
As GM says, you can get it from their website. Go to "Products" - Low Frequency Loudspeakers" - "416-8C"
